Start by finding where the process stops. Smart grips that won't charge, grips that won't finish pairing, and grips that seem paired but aren't recognized by your equipment are three separate problems. Each one leads to a different next step.
For charging, the check we support is simple. Our Smart Grips charge over USB Type-C, and we estimate a full charge takes about four hours. If you're stuck on pairing or recognition, write down exactly what you see and bring those details to our support team instead of guessing at a fix.
What to check: charge, pairing, or equipment recognition
Good smart grip troubleshooting begins with the last step that worked, not a guess about the cause. Pick the branch below that matches the point where things stopped.
When Smart Grips will not charge
Use this branch when you connect the grips to power and nothing happens the way you expected. Our FAQ lists USB Type-C as the charging method for Smart Grips, so start with a USB Type-C connection. That's the plug with the small oval connector that fits either way up.
Next, give the grips time. We estimate charging takes about four hours. Treat that number as a planning guide, not a test. Four hours on the charger doesn't prove the battery is full, and a shorter time doesn't prove something is wrong. It just tells you how long a normal session may last before you judge the result.
While the grips charge, note a few things: the cable and power source you used, how long they stayed connected, and what you saw or didn't see. If the grips still show no power response after that, skip swapping parts at random. Take those notes to the support handoff below. You can also confirm you have the right accessory on our Smart Grips product page.
When pairing does not complete
This branch fits when the grips seem to have power but the pairing attempt itself never finishes. The key detail is that the connection never got set up. That's different from a connection that looks finished but then doesn't work with your equipment.
Pay attention to timing as well. Our Smart Grips power off after five minutes of inactivity. If the grips sat unused for a while before you tried to pair, write down roughly how long that was. That way support can tell an idle shutdown apart from a real pairing fault.
Generic phone or Bluetooth tips, such as clearing device lists or trying reset button combinations, aren't part of a documented Smart Grips process. They can also make a simple problem harder to trace. If pairing still won't complete, record what you tried, the step where it stopped, and any message on screen. Then move to the support handoff.
When equipment does not recognize paired grips
This is a later-stage problem. Pairing appears to have worked, but the equipment you want to use, such as our AEKE Smart Home Gym K1, doesn't recognize the grips or won't use them. A finished pairing step and recognition by the equipment are two separate events. One doesn't confirm the other.
Bluetooth support on its own also doesn't mean any two devices will work together. Our K1 supports Bluetooth Smart Tracking, but that feature by itself isn't a compatibility rule for every grip and equipment pairing. Before you change settings, write down the exact equipment model, the screen you were on, and what it showed when it failed to recognize the grips.

Keep grip problems separate from problems with the machine itself. If the K1 also shows cable or motor behavior that seems off, our guide to troubleshooting smart gym cables and motors covers that equipment-side branch. For other add-ons that pair with the K1, our K1 smart accessories collection shows what's in the lineup, which helps you name the right item when you contact us.
If it still fails: prepare a useful support handoff
If the checks above don't solve it, contact us with notes on what you observed. Clear notes help our team pick the right next step without asking you to start over. Before you reach out through our Support Center, gather these details:
- Symptom branch: charging, pairing that didn't finish, or equipment that didn't recognize paired grips.
- What you saw: the exact error message, screen, or response, written word for word if possible. If nothing happened, say that.
- Pairing status: whether pairing finished, appeared to finish, or never got started.
- Equipment model: the exact machine or device you wanted the grips to work with, which matters most for a recognition problem.
- Charging attempt: that you used a USB Type-C connection, the cable and power source, and roughly how long the grips stayed connected.
- Idle time and steps tried: how long the grips sat unused before the attempt, plus anything you already tried, in order.

You can also reach us directly. Our contact page lists support@aeke.com for after-sales support and +1 (833) 892-6806 for phone help. Put the details above at the top of your email or have them in front of you when you call. That makes the first conversation about your actual problem instead of basic questions.
Describe what happened rather than what you think caused it. "The grips paired, but the K1 workout screen didn't show them" is more useful than "the Bluetooth is broken." The first tells us exactly which stage failed. The second is a guess that can send everyone down the wrong path.
FAQs
Does charging for four hours mean my grips are fully charged?
No. About four hours is our estimate for a typical charge, not a sign that charging is done. Use it to decide how long to wait before checking the result. It doesn't confirm that the battery is full or that something has failed.
Can grips that switched off on their own look like a connection problem?
Yes, they can. Smart Grips power off after five minutes of inactivity, so grips that sat idle may simply be off when you try to use them. Note how long they were unused before the attempt so support can rule out an idle shutdown.
Should I try a reset before contacting support?
We don't have a published reset procedure to share in this guide. Improvised button presses or general device-reset tips aren't a documented Smart Grips step. Contact our support team with your notes first, and they can tell you whether a reset applies to your situation.
Do Bluetooth grips work with any fitness equipment that has Bluetooth?
Not necessarily. Two devices having Bluetooth doesn't guarantee they'll recognize each other. If you plan to use the grips with a specific machine, give support the exact model so they can confirm whether that setup is supported.
Is smart grip troubleshooting different from fixing the gym itself?
Yes. Grip issues involve charging, pairing, or recognition of the grips. Machine issues, such as cable or motor behavior, belong to the equipment. Keeping the two apart lets each problem get the right check and the right support conversation.
